Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Adesse, LLC, a Washington limited liability company doing business as Finite Phone ("we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, discloses, and keeps personal information. It covers our websites at finitephone.com and my.finitephone.com (our "account site"), the Finite Phone subscription, and the Finite Phone app (the "App") while it is on your phone. It does not cover Google's services or the other apps on your phone, which have their own privacy policies. Finite Phone is offered only to adults in the United States. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy explains how we handle information about health under Washington and Nevada law.

Summary

This summary highlights the main points. The full policy follows it.

  • We collect what we need to sell you a subscription and run Finite Phone on your phone: your email address, your billing record, a record of your phone and your settings, the requests you send us, and technical reports from the App about its own operation.
  • The App does not send us your location, contacts, messages, call logs, photos, browsing history, or a record of which apps you use or for how long.
  • We do not sell personal information, use it for targeted advertising, or use it to train AI models. Our websites use no analytics services and no advertising cookies.
  • Our service providers are Google (hosting, database, sign-in, our mailbox, and AI review of app requests), Anthropic (AI review of app requests), Stripe (payments), and Postmark (email delivery).
  • You can ask to see, correct, or delete your information, wherever you live in the United States.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you give us

Waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address, which form you used, and when you joined.

Contact form. If you use the contact form on finitephone.com, we keep your email address, your message, and when you sent it.

Email. If you write to us, we keep your email and our reply.

Account. Your account is identified by your email address. You sign in with a link we email to you or with your Google account, through Firebase Authentication, a Google service. Firebase keeps your email address and when you signed in. If you sign in with Google, it also keeps the name on your Google account and the address of its profile photo. Your browser keeps your signed-in state and, if you sign in with an email link, the email address you entered.

Payment. Checkout takes place on a payment page operated by Stripe. Stripe collects your email address, billing address, and card details; we do not receive your full card number. When you start checkout, Stripe creates a customer record for you and we create an account record for your email address, even if you do not finish paying. From Stripe, we receive and keep the status of your subscription, the identifiers Stripe assigns to you and your subscription, your paid-through date, and the amount and identifier of your most recent invoice. We also keep a record of what you agreed to at checkout and when, including the version of the Terms of Service and your acknowledgment of the 48-hour removal wait.

Setup. The setup page reads information from your phone in your browser: the phone's model and Android version, to check that the phone is eligible; the accounts on the phone, to show you what to remove; and the apps installed on it, to show you which will be hidden and which will stay. The lists of accounts and apps are not sent to us. We receive the phone's model; a one-way hash of its serial number, so that a phone that was reset can be recognized when it is set up again; a one-time token that links the phone to your account; the web mode you choose; the version of the setup acknowledgment you accepted and when we recorded it; and how long each step of setup took. If you ask for an app on the setup page, we receive the app's name and package name. If you tell us that you no longer have a phone, we record that.

Your settings. We store the settings you choose so that they apply to your phone. The apps and websites you lock, with their start and end times; the apps you use Second Thought on and the level for each; the apps you set to In gray; and the websites on your Strict list are kept with your account and come back if you set up Finite Phone again. The apps and websites you block, any unblock you have asked for, and your web mode are kept with your phone's record. If you set up Finite Phone again before that record is deleted or reduced (section 5), your blocks come back, without any unblock that was still waiting; you choose your web mode again at each setup. Settings you change in the App are sent to us at the next check-in for this purpose. These are app names, website addresses, and times. They are not a record of how you use your phone.

Requests. When you ask for an app, report a website you believe is blocked by mistake, or ask to add a website to your Strict list, from our website, your account page, the setup page, or the App, we receive the app's name (and its package name or a link, if you give one) or the website's address, any note you write, and the email address you give or sign in with. Requests from the App also carry your phone's device key identifier. We keep the request, its status, and our decision, and we email you our decision on an app request. Your account page shows the requests made with the email address on your account. Please do not include health information in a note; we do not need it to decide a request.

Removal. When you ask to remove Finite Phone, we record when you asked, when the removal is due, and whether you cancelled the request. When the phone confirms the removal, it reports how the removal went; if an app could not be restored, the report names that app.

Account deletion. When you ask us to delete your account, by email or with Delete my account on your account page, we keep a record of the request until we complete it.

Support emails. If you use "Contact support" in the App, your email app opens a message that already contains the App's version, your Android version, your phone's model, and your phone's device key identifier. If you use "Write to us" on the setup page, the message contains your phone's model and Android version, the setup step, any error message, and the step times. You can read and change these messages before you send them.

1.2 Information the App sends automatically

Check-ins. About every 15 minutes, and when you open the App while connected to the internet, your phone asks our servers for its settings. Each check-in carries your phone's device key identifier and a signature made with that key; which versions of your settings and lists the phone has applied; the paid-through date the phone holds; for each app you blocked on your account page, whether that app is on the phone and whether it is hidden; any request from the App to cancel a pending change; and, when you have changed a setting in the App, your settings.

Daily reports. Once a day, and after the phone restarts, after the App updates, and at setup, the App sends a report about its own operation: the App's version; the phone's Android build; whether the App is the device owner and whether its controls are running; the result of its last check of the phone's apps; which Android restrictions are in force; which versions of the Approved List and the Block List it holds, where it downloaded them from, and when; its update group and the result of its last update; whether In gray is on, with a one-way fingerprint of which apps are gray; and a counter.

Downloads. The App downloads the Approved List, the Block List, and its own updates from our servers and from Google Cloud Storage. These downloads carry no identifier for your phone or your account. Like any internet request, they reveal your phone's IP address and its standard software identification, which includes its Android version and model, to the servers that answer them.

1.3 Information that stays on your phone

The app on the screen. To run Second Thought, In gray, and the screen that covers the Google app's Discover feed, the App checks which app is on the screen several times a second while the screen is on. It keeps this in memory for a few seconds, and it does not store it or send it to us.

Second Thought counts. For each app you use Second Thought on, the App counts on the phone how many times you opened it that day, and resets the count each day. The count is not sent to us.

Installed apps and links. The App reads the list of apps installed on the phone in order to hide the ones that are not approved. It checks links you tap, and websites you look up with "Check a site," against the Block List on the phone. None of this is sent to us unless you send us a request.

1.4 Our websites

finitephone.com sets no cookies, runs no analytics services, and loads nothing from other companies, and its fonts are served from our own domain. Some of our links, such as the ones in our ads, carry a short label that says where we posted them. When you arrive through one, your browser saves the label on your device. If you start checkout within 30 days, we pass the label to Stripe with your checkout, and if you subscribe, we keep it with your subscription, so we can tell which ads and posts bring subscribers. The "Check a site" lookup at finitephone.com/check runs in your browser and does not send us what you type. When you open our account site on a phone or in Safari, or choose Google sign-in in another browser, your browser loads Google's sign-in code, and Google receives your IP address, your browser details, and any Google cookies your browser sends, under Google's privacy policy. Our account site keeps your signed-in state in your browser's storage. To protect our forms, sign-in, and checkout from abuse, our servers count requests using a hashed form of your IP address and, for sign-in and checkout, of your email address, and delete those counts after about 26 hours. Google, which hosts our websites, keeps standard request logs, including IP address, browser type, and time; these include each time an email app loads the logo in one of our emails.

2. How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • provide Finite Phone, including setup, check-ins, your settings, the 48-hour removal process, and updates;
  • process payments and manage your subscription, including renewal reminders and refunds;
  • review and answer your requests;
  • send you service emails, such as receipts, renewal reminders, notices about your subscription or a removal, decisions on your requests, and sign-in links;
  • answer your messages and provide support;
  • keep Finite Phone secure, prevent abuse and fraud, and fix problems;
  • improve Finite Phone, including the Approved List, the Block List, and setup;
  • learn which of our ads and posts bring subscribers; and
  • comply with the law, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

Review of app requests. We review app requests ourselves and with the help of AI models. Information about the requested app, taken from its public Google Play listing, is analyzed by Google's Gemini API and Anthropic's Claude API. If you typed an app's name instead of giving a link, we may send that name to the Gemini API to find the app, without your email address or anything else that identifies you. Your note is not sent to either service. Some requests are decided automatically under rules we set. AI review helps us decide whether to add an app to the Approved List for everyone; we do not use AI to make decisions about you, your account, or your subscription.

What we do not do. We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use it for targeted advertising. We do not collect, use, or sell personal information to train large language models or other AI models. We do not send marketing email to subscribers. We will email the waitlist when Finite Phone is available, and each such email will explain how to unsubscribe.

3. How we disclose information

We disclose personal information only as described in this section.

Service providers. We use the following companies to run Finite Phone. They process personal information for us under agreements that limit how they may use it.

Provider What it receives Purpose
Google LLC: Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase Hosting, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Cloud Storage, the Gemini API, and Google Workspace The information this policy describes as stored by us or sent to us Hosting our websites and servers, storing our data, signing you in, reviewing app requests, and running our mailbox. Our database and servers are in the United States, in Google's us-central1 region; Firebase Authentication, Firebase Hosting, and Google Workspace operate globally.
Stripe, Inc. Your email address, billing address, card details, payment history, and the link label described in section 1.4, if there is one Processing payments, and sending payment emails, such as notices of a failed payment
Postmark Your email address and the contents of the emails we send, including sign-in links and the notices of your requests and messages that we send to our own mailbox Delivering our emails
Anthropic, PBC: the Claude API Public information about the apps customers ask for, as described in section 2, and no information about you Reviewing app requests

Stripe also uses the information it collects for its own purposes, such as preventing fraud and meeting its legal obligations, as described in Stripe's privacy policy.

Legal requirements and protection. We disclose information when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, such as in response to a subpoena or court order, or when it is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of you, us, or others. If we receive a legal demand for your information, we will tell you unless the law prohibits it.

Business transfers. If our business is sold or transferred, personal information may be transferred to the successor. We will require the successor to honor this Privacy Policy for the information it receives, or we will tell you before the transfer so that you can ask us to delete your information.

At your direction. We disclose information when you ask us to.

4. What we do not collect

The App does not collect your location, contacts, messages, call logs, photos, browsing history, or searches, or a record of which apps you use or for how long. It does not send us the list of apps installed on your phone, and it does not use an accessibility service. The information about apps and websites that we do receive is limited to what sections 1.1 and 1.2 describe: your settings, your requests, the removal report, and, for each app you blocked, whether it is on the phone and whether it is hidden.

5. How long we keep information

Information How long we keep it
Waitlist record 24 months after you join, or until you ask us to delete it
Contact messages and requests, including the copies our systems email to our mailbox 12 months after the later of when they were made and when they were closed
Emails between you and us As long as needed to help you, or until you ask us to delete them
Abuse-prevention counts About 26 hours
Sign-in links Until used or expired, as Google sets
The one-time setup token 2 hours if unused; 24 hours after use
Your phone's daily reports 30 days
Your phone's record 30 days after the phone confirms that Finite Phone was removed, or after you tell us you no longer have it, except as described below
Your account, subscription record, and settings While your account exists
The record of what you agreed to at checkout and at setup 4 years after your subscription ends
Billing records at Stripe As long as tax and accounting law requires
Our log of actions taken on your account 3 years
Our servers' activity logs 30 days
Account deletion requests Until the deletion is complete

Deletion from our systems may take up to about a day after the end of each period. Deleted information remains in our database backups for up to 7 more days, until those backups expire.

A phone that you no longer have, or that you reset without telling us, cannot tell us that Finite Phone was removed. If such a phone has not confirmed a removal 30 days after the removal came due, we reduce its record to the phone's key and the removal instruction, with nothing that identifies you, so that the phone can still be released if it checks in again. We delete that reduced record 30 days after the phone confirms the removal. If the phone never checks in again, the reduced record remains.

6. Your rights and choices

Access, correction, and deletion. Wherever you live in the United States, you may ask us to confirm whether we hold personal information about you, to give you a copy of it, to correct it, or to delete it. Email support@finitephone.com from the address on your account, or confirm the request from that address when we ask, so that we can verify that the request comes from you. You can also ask us to delete your account with Delete my account on your account page. We will acknowledge your request within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we will tell you why within those 45 days, and we will respond within 45 more days.

Appeals. If we decline your request, in whole or in part, we will explain why. You may appeal by replying to our answer. We will respond to your appeal in writing within 45 days and explain our decision. If we deny your appeal, you may contact the attorney general of your state. Washington residents may file a complaint at www.atg.wa.gov/file-complaint, Nevada residents at ag.nv.gov/Complaints/File_Complaint/, and Connecticut residents at portal.ct.gov/AG/Common/Complaint-Form-Landing-page.

What deletion keeps. When we delete your account, we keep: billing records at Stripe, as tax and accounting law requires; our log of actions taken on your account, for 3 years; the record of what you agreed to at checkout and at setup, for 4 years after your subscription ends, to show what you agreed to; and the reduced record of a phone that has not confirmed its removal (section 5). Our servers' activity logs refer to your account and phone by codes rather than by your email address, and expire after 30 days.

A phone still set up. If Finite Phone is still on a phone under your account, request its removal on your account page, or tell us that you no longer have the phone, before you ask us to delete your account, because the phone needs its record until it is released.

Cancelling and removal. Cancelling your subscription is separate from deleting your information. Our Terms of Service explain how to cancel and how to remove Finite Phone from your phone. A factory reset removes Finite Phone from your phone at once, and it also erases the phone.

Emails. Service emails about your subscription, your requests, and your phone are part of the service. You can ask to be removed from the waitlist at any time.

No discrimination. We will not treat you differently because you exercised any of these rights.

Other formats. If you need this policy in another format, email us and we will provide it.

7. Children

Finite Phone is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use encrypted connections between your browser, your phone, and our servers, and we limit access to our systems to the people who need it to run Finite Phone. After setup, the reports and requests your phone sends us are signed with a private key that the phone created and does not share, and our servers reject any that are not signed with it. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. If we learn of a breach of security that affects your personal information, we will tell you as the law requires. To report a security problem, email support@finitephone.com.

9. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not track you across other websites, so there is nothing for a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal to change, and our websites work the same whether or not your browser sends one. No other company collects information through our websites about your activity over time and across other websites; Google receives only the information described in section 1.4, to host our websites and provide sign-in.

10. State notices

California. This policy describes the categories of personal information we collect, the categories of sources, our purposes, the categories of service providers to which we disclose it, and how long we keep it. We do not sell or share personal information, as California law defines those terms, and we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.

Nevada. We do not sell covered information as Nevada law defines it. To ask us not to sell your information, or to make any other request under Nevada law, email support@finitephone.com.

Connecticut and other states. The rights and the appeal process in section 6 are available wherever you live in the United States. We do not process personal information for targeted advertising, sale, or profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

11. Changes to this policy

We may change this Privacy Policy. When we do, we will post the new version on this page with a new "Last updated" date. A material change is a change in what we collect, why we collect it, or who receives it. If we make a material change, we will email account holders at least 30 days before it takes effect. We will not use or disclose personal information we already hold in a materially different way unless you consent. Earlier versions remain available at finitephone.com/privacy/archive/.
